It was created by 日本アニメーション (Nippon Animation). At the time it was made in 1973 the studio was named after Zuiyo Eizo (Zuiyo Enterprises). Although it was made in 1973, it aired between 1978 until 1991 on American TV.
It is interesting to note that the opening music was also written by a Japanese person. The song is called. Midori No Hidamari by Mitsuko Horie
I was a child when I used to watch this series on TVO or TV Ontario. At the time I had no idea it was a Japanese series. It seemed as Canadian as Maple Syrup to me. I thought the stories always had a strict moral story to tell. Little did I know how Japanese this series actually was.
