History (Timeline) of Japanese Anime and Manga:

1943 - KUMO-TO-CHURIPPU, Just about the oldest Anime I have ever seen. Here is a link for it on Youtube.

It's amazing how you can see that even back then, the Japanese had a unique Animation style.

1963 - Astro Boy, Just about the most important Anime that established the style.

1967- Speed Racer (Mach Go Go Go). I didn't grow up on this one, but I recently learned a lot about it as it was turned into an American Move. I also heard a rumor that Akira will become a Hollywood movie. Japan has always been a fertile ground for Hollywood. Look at movies like the 7 Samurai for example. It was turned into
the Magnificent 7.

1973- Fables of the Green Forest (Yama Nezumi Rokkī Chakku) This really has special meaning for me because I always thought
it was a Canadian show, but I recently learned that it is Japanese. Here is a link if you want to learn more about this series.

1978 - Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman). As far as I can tell, this was very similar to GForce.

1980 - Gforce, I grow up watching this one on my lunch breaks from public school.

1985 - Thunder Cats, Not really Anime, but was produced by a Japanese company. I also grew up watching this one.

1988 - Akira, the first truely epic Anime movie with outstanding production quality.

1994 - Sailor Moon, the typical Otaku (nerd/perv) Anime. Perfect for young men to fanasize about.

1998 - Pokémon, A fresh new Anime for the Millenium.
